May

Two award-winning guitarists in concert: Ikuo Inoue & Cameron O’Connor – May 3, 2019 – Friday, May 3, 2019 Ikuo Inoue from Tokyo and Cameron O’Connor, will team up on a program that will include Japanese guitar music (solos and duos of Takemitsu, Shingo Fujii, Joe Hisaishi, arrangements of traditional tune).

James Reid – May 4, 2019  – Classical Guitarist James Reid is a highly regarded performer. He has debuted works by Bryan Johanson,  Andrew York, Maximo Diego Pujol, and Gwyneth Walker. Mr. Reid heads the  guitar department at the University of Idaho. “The classical guitar has seldom had a more elegant steward, and here Reid performs a rich array of classical and contemporary pieces.”  –Canon Press

Adam Levin & James Manuele – May 18, 2018 
Adam Levin – A Fubright scholar and winner of international guitar competitions, Adam Levin has  been praised for his “visceral and imaginative performances” by the Washington Post. Levin has performed on four continents across the globe. Adam is also a champion of music education. He is the co-founder of Kithara Project Inc. which puts provides guitars and quality instruction for at-risk young people in two cities in the U.S. and a third in Mexico City.

James Manuele – An associated professor at Clark College in Vancouver Washington, James Manuele earned his Masters of Music in Guitar Performance at Portland State University, under composer and guitarist Bryan Johanson. In addition to solo performances, James performs chamber music with Foti Lycouridis as the Portland Guitar Duo.

Folias Duo perform at CDZ on their U.S. Tour Portland- Saturday, June 29th 7:30 p.m. 

Andrew Bergeron and Carmen Maret are composers, educators and exciting young performers from Grand Rapids, Michigan known for their work as the Folias Duo. Folias Duo’s fifteen year performer/composer collaboration has taken this nomadic husband and wife duo to stages throughout the United States and around the globe including Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, and Chile.They have a fearless approach to developing new compositions for flute and guitar, and creating exciting virtuosic arrangements of Argentine tango, and South American music.

Robert Schulslaper of Fanfare Magazine writes: “Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron are facile players…they draw on tango rhythms and melodies sometimes; at other times they write with a scenic sensitivity…mysterious…charming…evocative,” while Todd Gorman of American Record Guide calls the Folias Duo “daring in self- written music” and “a nice touch of originality.”
